An alternative classroom where Neurodivergent minds thrive

Balance Specialized Classroom

A supportive alternative learning space for neurodivergent youth.

At Willow Tree, we understand that traditional classrooms don’t always meet the needs of every learner. The Balance Classroom is a neurodivergent-affirming alternative program designed for children who need a different kind of learning environment then a traditional school setting. Our program focuses on helping children build the essential life and learning skills that are often overlooked in traditional classrooms—so they can feel confident and capable both in school and in everyday life.

A Safe Space to Learn, Grow, and Belong

We created the Balance Classroom for families who feel like the traditional school system just isn’t working for their child. Whether your child is facing school refusal, anxiety, bullying, behavioural challenges, or is simply not being supported or challenged appropriately, especially in autism or special education classrooms, they deserve more.

Our goal is to provide a safe, therapeutic, and empowering space where neurodivergent children can:

  • Rebuild their confidence

  • Learn in a way that truly fits them

  • Feel supported, understood, and successful

  • Receive individualized skill-based assessment and support to determine how they learn best

Some children use the Balance Classroom as a longer-term alternative to reduce the stress of school entirely. Others attend part-time or during times of transition, using this space to build the skills, regulation, and readiness needed to re-engage with school when they’re ready.

No matter the path, we meet each child where they’re at, and help them move forward.

Who our program is for

This program is ideal for neurodivergent children in grades 4-6 and 7-8 who may experience challenges with ADHD, autism, anxiety, sensory processing, trauma, or emotional regulation resulting in difficulties within their typical school setting. Children are grouped based on developmental readiness and individual learning goals.

Our small-group environment is guided by experienced therapeutic staff and offers a calm, nurturing, and flexible space where every child is supported in learning their way. We keep our groups small with a 6 student maximum for each group.

What We Teach

At the Balance Classroom, we focus on building the core foundational skills children need to succeed in school and everyday life. Our program supports neurodivergent learners in developing the tools that help them feel more confident, capable, and connected, both in and outside the classroom.

We specialize in teaching:

Focus, flexibility, task initiation, organization, and impulse control

  • Social-Emotional Learning
Identifying emotions, developing coping strategies, managing frustration, and building resilience

  • Social & Friendship Skills
Communication, turn-taking, cooperative play, friendship-building, and conflict resolution

While we are not an academic program and do not follow the Ontario school curriculum, our therapeutic programming is carefully designed to complement and support school success. Our team often collaborates with school teachers to ensure goals are aligned, and that your child is getting support in the area’s that would be most helpful to support their success at school.
