Summer Program for Teens 13+

What is Balance?

Balance is a specialized skill development group for neurodivergent youth 13+ or youth struggling with social, emotional or life skills. Our goal is to help support your teen to develop a well rounded, and balanced life! Our program is rooted in positive psychology and behavioural sciences to teach our learners how to thrive in social settings, make meaningful connections with their peers and learn valuable life and community skills. During the group learners will also have the opportunity to plan outings into the community and engage in fun, interest based social activities with their peers!

Location: 1434 Kingston Rd, Scarborough - and Community

When:

Term 1: July 8th - 31st (4 weeks - 4 outings)

Term 2: August 5th - 28th (4 weeks - 4 outings)

  • Tuesdays: 1:00pm-4:00pm - In centre lesson, social games and outing planning day

  • Thursdays: 1:00pm-4:00pm - a blend of in centre and in community / Outings

Evidence-Based Foundation of the Program

This program is rooted in evidence based strategies from Positive Psychology and Applied Behavioural Sciences. The program uses Learning Theory and Behavioural Skills Training to teach a variety of Executive Functioning skills and Abstract Reasoning skills! These vital skills will help equip youth with the skills and mindset they need to succeed in an ever-changing world.

  • Neurodivergent Teens 13+ that would benefit from improving their social and executive functioning skills!

    Teens must be able to attend independently and not have any safety risks as this program is outing based!

    If you answer yes to ANY of the following questions, this program may be a good fit for your child:

    • Does your child have trouble getting outside of their comfort zone at times?

    • Does your child struggle making decisions or problem solving?

    • Does your child give up easily when things get tough?

    • Does your child struggle with peer relationships or social skills?

    • Does your child struggle with self awareness and regulation?

    We are Neurodivergent inclusive - ASD, ADHD, or other learning exceptionalities are welcome!

  • Our summer program is from 1:00-4:00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from July 8th - August 28th (8 weeks)

    Occasionally, for longer outings, times may be adjusted accordingly with pre-approval from families.

  • Sessions will be hosted at Willow Tree Mind & Wellness Centre

    1434 Kingston Rd.

  • Our Sessions are a comination of lessons and fun outings! Typically each week Tuesdays we will have a lesson and planning day, and Thursdays we will take action on our plan and embark on our outing.

    During Lesson days, our therapists teach each lesson using Behavioural Skills Training.

    1) They deliver a short lesson or instruction/discussion

    2) They provide a model of the skill being taught

    3) The group engages in a hands on activities to learn the skills

    4) The Therapists provide in-situ feedback to steer learners in the right direction.

    5) Reflection

    several movement breaks and fun social games are incorporated within the activity to provide a balanced session.

  • Sessions are Tues and Thurs 1:00pm-4:00 (3 hours), total of 6 hours per week.

    • Our group therapy rate is $55/hr

    • Weekly: $330.00

    • Term 1: $1320.00

    • Term 2: $1320.00

    • Both terms: $2475.00

  • We accept Ontario Autism Program (OAP) funding!

    Insurance benefits may apply under Registered Social Worker (RSW).

    Special Services at Home (SSAH) funding for Social Groups/ Camps.
