Supporting Emotional Well-Being, Confidence & Resilience
Every child, teen, and family experiences challenges from time to time. Whether your child is navigating anxiety, stress, emotional overwhelm, friendship difficulties, low self-confidence, or a major life transition, our team is here to help.
At Willow Tree, we take a strengths-based, skill-building approach to mental wellness. We believe children and teens can develop the emotional awareness, coping skills, resilience, and confidence needed to navigate life's challenges and thrive.
Our Approach
At Willow Tree, we combine evidence-based practices with meaningful relationships, individualized support, and practical skill development.
Our services draw from psychology, behaviour science, social-emotional learning, mindfulness, positive psychology, and neurodiversity-affirming practices to support long-term emotional wellness.
We are not simply focused on helping children manage challenges today—we are focused on helping them build the skills they need for life.
What Support May Look Like
Every child, teen, and family is unique. Support is tailored to individual strengths, goals, interests, and needs. Depending on the age and preferences of the individual, mental health support may include:
Traditional Counselling
A safe and supportive space to explore emotions, develop self-awareness, build coping skills, and navigate life's challenges.
Play-Based Therapy
For younger children, play can provide a natural and meaningful way to express emotions, develop coping skills, process experiences, and build confidence.
Creative & Activity-Based Approaches
Art, Music, Drawing, games, storytelling, mindfulness, movement, and other engaging experiences may be incorporated to support emotional learning and self-expression.
Walk & Talk Sessions
For some older children, teens, and young adults, movement-based sessions can provide a comfortable and natural environment for reflection, conversation, and personal growth.
Parent & Family Involvement
When appropriate, parents and caregivers may be involved to help strengthen skills, support progress, and create consistency across home and community environments.
Evidence-Based & Individualized Support
Our services draw from a variety of evidence-based approaches and are tailored to the unique needs of each individual. We focus on building practical skills, emotional awareness, resilience, confidence, and long-term mental wellness.

Common Areas of Support
We commonly support children and teens experiencing:
-
Anxiety can show up in many different ways, including excessive worry, perfectionism, difficulty separating from caregivers, school avoidance, overthinking, or feeling overwhelmed by everyday situations.
-
Some children experience emotions intensely and may struggle with frustration, flexibility, disappointment, coping with change, or managing strong emotional reactions.
-
Confidence & Self-Esteem
Children and teens may struggle with self-doubt, negative self-talk, fear of failure, comparing themselves to others, or avoiding new experiences due to a lack of confidence.
-
Making and maintaining friendships can be difficult for some children and teens. Challenges may include social confidence, communication, conflict resolution, understanding social situations, dealing with bullying or feeling connected to peers.
-
Stress & Overwhelm
Academic demands, extracurricular activities, family changes, social pressures, and everyday responsibilities can sometimes leave children and teens feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or emotionally exhausted.
-
Difficulties with school may include anxiety, motivation, organization, executive functioning, peer relationships, transitions, emotional regulation, or adapting to classroom expectations.
-
Children and teens may benefit from support when navigating major life changes such as starting school, changing schools, family transitions, moving, entering adolescence, or other significant life events.
-
Mental wellness is about more than responding to challenges when they arise. We help children and teens develop self-awareness, coping skills, resilience, confidence, and emotional well-being that support long-term success.
-
Children and teens may experience a wide range of emotions following the loss of a loved one, pet, friendship, relationship, or other significant life change. Support can help them process emotions, build coping skills, and navigate change in a healthy and meaningful way.
-
Some children and teens place significant pressure on themselves to perform, achieve, or "get things right." Perfectionism can contribute to anxiety, avoidance, self-criticism, and fear of making mistakes. We help build self-compassion, flexibility, confidence, and a healthy relationship with challenges and setbacks.
-
Changes within the family can bring uncertainty, sadness, worry, frustration, or confusion. We help children and teens understand and express their emotions, develop coping strategies, and adjust to new family dynamics with greater confidence and security.
